At Nativity of Mary School, the preservation of Catholic identity is essential for fostering a sense of community, values-based education, and spiritual growth among students. By embracing the teachings and traditions of the Catholic faith, we uphold moral standards that guide students towards making ethical choices in their personal and academic lives.
Furthermore, providing a religious foundation helps students develop empathy and compassion. Through prayer, worship services, and involvement in service projects, students are encouraged to reflect on their faith and strengthen their relationship with God.
Maintaining a strong Catholic identity also allows our school to cultivate a supportive environment where educators collaborate with parents to instill religious values in students' learning experiences. This commitment to Catholic identity not only shapes students academically but also prepares them to become responsible citizens who contribute positively to society.
Our school community participates in weekly school Masses. Each week a different grade level leads the Mass as lectors and gift bearers. All of our students are active participants in our weekly Masses; they serve as altar servers and choir members.
We also celebrate seasonal Masses for Veterans Day, Christmas, Easter, and in the spring, the May Crowning. Families are always welcome to join the school community at liturgies and prayer services. During Lent the 8th graders lead Stations of the Cross. Our middle school students also participate in a Lenten Seder Meal. As the leaders of our school, our 8th graders get their class sweatshirts blessed every fall during a special ceremony and then in May we celebrate our Hope Ribbon Ceremony.
Nativity of Mary School School has many traditions that offer our students the opportunity to practice their faith.
Each month we award a student from each class that exemplifies our monthly Virtue which is aligned with a Saint. We also select one student every month from the entire school and award them with the Diocesan Virtue Award.
Our classes in grades K-8 each have their own service project each year. Additionally, every classroom in the school has adopted a Saint and incorporated their Saint’s story into their classroom culture.
These are just a few examples of how we put our faith into action at Nativity of Mary School.
Our second grade students prepare for the Sacrament of First Reconciliation and our third graders prepare for First Holy Communion with their dedicated teachers and our Faith Formation team. Aside from learning the importance of these sacraments, the students participate in days of prayer, retreats, and service projects to help them prepare for these special moments in their faith lives.
